Level 3 Update to Users of Lee Breakwater Carpark and Boat Ramp
We advise that during COVID-19 alert Level 3, which begins at 11.59pm, Monday 27 April 2020, the Lee Breakwater carpark and boat ramp will remain closed to vehicles and recreational boat users.
This aligns with the Government’s protocols for Level 3, which state boating, sailing and the use of jet skis are not allowed. This is to enable emergency services to focus on their current priorities, as a boating accident or breakdown would occupy resources and increase the risk of COVID-19 spreading.
During Level 3, the Lee Breakwater will be open to pedestrians and cyclists. Fishing from the breakwater and the kids’ fishing jetty is also allowed, but we please ask that users act safely at all times and adhere to physical distancing requirements.
Swimming, surfing, kayaking, canoeing, rowing, windsurfing, and paddle boarding are also allowed to resume at Level 3, but please stay close to shore and maintain physical distancing requirements.
Access to the boat ramp for commercial fishermen will continue to be granted on request to the Port Taranaki Communications Centre. Please ring 06 759 9740 to make these arrangements.
We apologise for the inconvenience as we all work together to protect New Zealand from COVID-19.
Thanks for your patience.
