Communications & Security Officer

Port Taranaki has an opportunity for a customer focused Security and Communications Officer to join our committed Security & Communications team.

 

This role provides a 24 hour, 7 day Port customer and security service, with a particular focus on providing efficient communication services to customers, clients, staff and the general public.

 

Working in a combination of day and night shifts your role will include a variety of Roving Patrol, Communications and Gate House duties. You will act as the company’s first point of contact with an emphasis on providing excellent customer service.

 

Key responsibilities of this role will include:

  • Ensuring compliance with the Port Taranaki Security Plan, Maritime Security Act, International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code and Port Taranaki policies and procedures;
  • Maintaining the Port’s Cardax system used for site access control;
  • Providing 24 hour continuous monitoring of and response to the marine radio emergency channels and alarm systems within the port area;
  • Assisting with emergency procedures in accordance with the Emergency Response Plan, performing duties of first responder when required.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to work unsupervised are vital.

Marine Deck Hand

Port Taranaki is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to join our Marine division as a qualified deck hand on Port Taranaki’s company vessels. This is a progressive role that offers the successful candidate ongoing training and guidance in order to eventually provide cover for Launch and Tug Operations across roles of Deckhand, Engineer or Master.

 

Key responsibilities will include assisting the safe and efficient navigation of Port Taranaki operated vessels during in-harbour Tug manoeuvres and Launch Pilot transfers while taking responsibility for Deck operations under the Master’s supervision. You will also be required to provide relief to cover leave within the Marine team where required.

 

We are looking for a candidate with a high level of commitment to company culture, safety and values, who is capable of promoting a spirit of teamwork and cooperation in the Marine department and across the company as a whole. A proven ability and confidence for working on the water is a must.  You must also have the ability to work flexible working hours – day and night shifts will be required.

 

  • Evidenced seatime of >200 hours
  • Knowledge of vessel operations, both inshore and offshore
  • A passion and commitment to learning and working on the water
  • Forward thinking ability and capable in working unsupervised
  • Good interpersonal skills and able to work in a team environment
  • A customer focus and ability to provide professional service to customers, suppliers and other Port Taranaki staff
  • Hold a Qualified Deckhand Certificate (QDC) – if not, then this must be achieved within 90 day trial period.
  • A positive, ‘Can do” attitude
  • A MEC 5/6 qualification, SRL/ILM and Marine Radio Operators certificate is desirable.

Procurement Officer

Port Taranaki is seeking a motivated, enthusiastic and experienced procurement specialist to join our Business Services team.  We are looking for a candidate with a high level of commitment to excellence in customer service and who is capable of promoting a spirit of teamwork and cooperation across the company as a whole.  This role presents a great opportunity for someone to take ownership of procurement initiatives that deliver continuous improvement in supply chain strategies and systems. 

 

Your primary responsibility will be focusing on efficient purchasing of the company’s goods and services, and assisting stores with the control of inventory levels.   You would build relationships with suppliers, develop and maintain demand and supply planning, and order fulfilment for the organisation.

 

Essential skills include:

  • An ability to see the big picture and at the same time a willingness to work at operational level
  • Prior experience in a procurement role, including experience in tender management
  • Skills in supplier negotiation
  • Experience in analytics/reporting
  • An ability to work independently, to adapt to change and shifting priorities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A background in Maximo would be an advantage and a current certification and competent use of forklift would be desirable as there is a need for this role to provide cover for our stores area on occasion.
