Port Taranaki, as the only deep-water harbour on New Zealand’s west coast is strategically important to the economic development of the Taranaki region. We are seeking a self-motivated; team focused Wharf Services Operator who is an experienced Hiab and forklift operator with the associated rigging skills.

 

As a Wharf Services Operator you will work within one of our two 8 person teams to provide shipping related services such as mooring operations, Hiab and forklift duties, refuse disposal and gangway related activities to our customers.

 

You will be working around the shipping schedule so the rostered 4 days on-4 day off duty cycle also includes an on-call component. When rostered on you must be flexible as 24 hour coverage is required.

 

You will be a member of a tight knit and highly skilled team so must have a proven ability to work collaboratively, have sound communication skills and have the ability to remain calm under pressure.  The position requires adaptability and considerable multiskilling so a passion for continuous learning is essential. 

 

A high level of fitness, agility and the ability to work in all weather, at heights and on the water is vital.

 

Other essential skills are: 

  • Full drivers licence including class 2 with F endorsement
  • 5+ years of work experience, ideally in a similar environment
  • Hiab and forklift certification with at least 3 years’ experience, ideally including NZQA Unit Standards: 3795,16617, 10852 & 3789
  • Rigging experience
  • Be able to multi-task, work under pressure and be self-managing
  • A safety conscious approach that encompasses situational awareness, team wellbeing and a commitment to Health and Safety
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
