Tugs

   

Port Taranaki has four tractor tugs:Tuakana, a twin-engined vessel which boasts a bollard pull of 40 tonnes, Rupe (30 tonne pull), Kupe (28 tonne pull) and Maui 1 (7 tonne pull).

Tugs are provided for most vessels, the number of tugs required depending on the size of each vessel and the weather conditions at the time.

Tuakana and Rupe each have the capacity of pumping 22,000 litres of water, or foam-injected water, per minute. Tug Maui 1 has a pumping capacity of 2,300 litres per minute.

Port Taranaki's tug fleet is also available for contract work, including coastal towing and offshore support.
