Plant

As befits a fully operational deep water port, Port Taranaki has modern plant and equipment capable of servicing all customer needs.

Equipment at Blyde Terminal includes two Liebherr LHM 400 mobile cranes. Used primarily to handle container cargo but capable of a variety of other tasks, each LHM 400 has an outreach of 48 metres and a lifting capacity of more than 100 tonnes at 22 metres. The port also operates one 70 tonne Lima 2400 crawler crane, and one Liebherr LHM 1200S with a lifting capacity of 50 tonnes.

Container handling equipment includes 4 Skystackers and 5 Reachstackers which can stack containers five high.

Container handling efficiency is maintained via a computer based Navis Sparcs tracking system which maintains a constant watch of the whereabouts and current status of every container in the port area.
